Form I-9 process [Worksite immigration law enforcement] is in shambles An interesting report released by the Government Accountability Office discusses the Form I-9 process and challenges, the resources of ICE and USCIS to enforce the program and other details that I found interesting as well disappointing after a 23 year career with that agency. The I-9 as you are probably aware is required to be executed by employers on all employees hired since 1986. The process is in shambles and GAO gives a good snapshot if its status. I think that the government should expand the Electronic Verification System, decrease the burden of proof the government has to show on the employers and increase the fines against employers who violate the law. To get the above done, I think the enforcement of the law would have to be a critical element within the performance appraisals of all ICE supervisors.
