"Dog" Chapman Arrested, Faces Extradition

Duane

STAFF WRITER is reporting that Duane Dog Chapman, star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," and two members of his bounty hunting team (including his son) were arrested by U.S. officials today for extradition to Mexico. Cosby is reporting that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

In 2003, Chapman traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges. Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term. The Chapmans were jailed in Mexico for a brief time for the incident three years ago. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

Dog's wife, Beth Chapman, said 12 armed marshals "came through the door" at 6:00AM this morning. She said they took their daughter's boyfriend down at gunpoint. Dog was sleeping at the time.

TMZ spoke with Nicky Credic from the U.S. Marshals Office. She said, "The arrest warrant was signed by a U.S. magistrate in Hawaii on September 13. The warrant was based on a formal request based on a diplomatic note from the government of Mexico."

Teachers and Children Massacred By State Police In Oaxaca, Mexico
by Liberation News
Friday Jun 16th, 2006 8:23 AM
I'm writing about the situation in Oaxaca. As I write, the capital city is under siege. At approximately 5AM this morning the state police attacked the teachers occupation of the city center. Though reports are sketchy, it seems that three teachers have been killed, as well as a young girl. [LATEST FIGURE IS 8 ADULTS AND THREE CHILDREN -- SJ.]

The teachers have taken three or four police hostage. A raging battle is underway to control the zocalo, the center of life in Oaxaca, and the heart of the teacher's encampment. In the dawn raid the teachers were forced out, but the local paper, Noticias de Oaxaca, has reported that at 9:30AM local time the teachers, armed with rocks and sticks, re-took the main square. Police are firing tear gas from helicopters right now. Thousands (tens of thousands) of people are involved in running battles in the streets. And there is the fear that upwards of 3500 federal riot police -- deployed to Oaxaca in the last two weeks by Vicente Fox – are about to enter the city.

Western Union transfers to Mexico being seized

Western Union Co. said the state of Arizona, trying to track down smugglers of drugs and illegal immigrants, plans to seize most money transfers of $500 or more sent from 29 states, including Colorado, to Sonora, Mexico.
A warrant obtained by Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard blocks the money- transfer company from sending funds directly to 26 locations in the Mexican state, Western Union said in a filing Friday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Instead, it must put the funds in a "detention account," even if the senders were outside Arizona.

Judge pulls Proposition 405 from city's November ballot

PHOENIX The immigration initiative has been yanked from Phoenix's November ballot.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Janet Barton ruled that a city charter provision that granted proposition backers extra time to get the needed signatures conflicts with state law.
As a result, Proposition 405 came up more than 600 signatures short of qualifying for the ballot.
Latino community leaders applauded the judge's decision.,
Supporters of the measure say they'll appeal the judge's decision to the Arizona Supreme Court next week.
The proposal would require police officers to act as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and enforce federal immigration laws.

HAZLETON, Pennsylvania (Reuters) -
Officials in the Pennsylvania town of Hazleton on Friday strengthened a local law designed to drive illegal immigrants away in a bid to defend the measure against legal challenges.
Hazleton City Council passed a new version of the Illegal Immigration Relief Act, an ordinance first passed in July that was already one of the toughest anti-illegal immigrant laws in the country. It has since been copied by other cities where illegal immigration is blamed for rising crime and overburdened social services.

Leftist lawmakers steal stage from Mexican president
POSTED: 1:03 a.m. EDT, September 2, 2006
MEXICO CITY, Mexico (AP) -- Mexico's President Vicente Fox was forced to forgo his final state-of-the-nation address Friday after leftist lawmakers stormed the stage of Congress to protest disputed July 2 elections.

Instead, he gave his speech on television, and called on Mexico to mend deep divisions that he said threaten the nation's newfound democracy.

It was the first time in modern Mexican history a president hasn't given the annual address to Congress. Fox arrived at the door of the Legislative Palace, handed in a written copy -- as the constitution requires -- and announced over the loudspeaker that he wouldn't appear before lawmakers. He did not enter the chambers, and Congress was adjourned.

Texas Immigration Proposal Draws Protest
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/08/26/D8JOE29G0.html

By ANABELLE GARAY
Associated Press Writer

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas

Clutching American flags and signs that read "America was formed by immigrants," more than 300 protesters on Saturday denounced a city proposal that would prohibit landlords from leasing to illegal immigrants.
About two dozen counter-protesters staged a demonstration nearby.
The proposal by City Councilman Tim O'Hare would also make it tougher for illegal immigrants to work in the Dallas suburb, penalize businesses that employ undocumented workers and make English the city's official language.
Protesters branded the proposal a racist initiative that would single out Hispanics, who make up about 37 percent of the city's population, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures from 2000.
"If we're of a certain color, they're going to point their finger at us," said Jose Gomez, a 42-year-old naturalized citizen.
Organizers of the rally emphasized that immigrants, regardless of status, pay taxes when they shop, rent or buy a home in Farmers Branch.
Families with children and college students rallied in temperatures topping 100 degrees.
O'Hare, who was not seen at the rally, and a city spokesman did not immediately return calls to The Associated Press.
Counter-protesters carried signs reading "I place all persons in the USA illegally under citizen's arrest" and "Como se Dice illegal en Espanol?", which translates to "How do you say illegal in Spanish?"
Supporters of the proposal said the measure would address problems with health care, education and crime in the city.
"They're taking our jobs, our homes," said Debbie Rawlins, 48. "There's unemployment partly because of the Hispanics. The lady that took my job is Hispanic and she's bilingual."
City Council members heard from constituents earlier this week on whether Farmers Branch should approve the measures, but no decision was made.

Bill to require voter photo IDs upsets activists

Ron Bass, who heads the Linden-based United Patriots of America, rejected the argument that some eligible voters might not be able to prove they are citizens.

"If somebody says they are legal but they can't prove it, I say, too bad, nice try, no cigar," he said. "If you can't prove it, you can't vote."

Although opponents insist the measure would create more problems than it would solve because voting by illegal immigrants is practically non-existent, Bass said Americans seeking tighter immigration controls consider voter fraud "a legitimate concern."

Bass sees it from the opposite perspective. "All the Democrats want illegals to vote, so they don't even want to check on [citizenship]," he said. "But I think it's good that government officials are paying attention to this issue."

However, Bass was not optimistic that the bill would become law. "The Senate will turn it down because they are a bunch of traitors," he said. "They don't care who votes."

The Cannon Race
In spite of our best efforts we failed to defeat the King of Amnesty,
Chris Cannon.  He won his primary on Tuesday 56% to 44%.  But a closer
look at the race suggests immigration is a powerful issue, which forced an
incumbent running against an inexperienced, under-funded, mistake prone
unknown, into the race of his life, so unnerving the establishment that
they went on red alert.
