The Washington Legal Foundation (WLF) has urged the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court to uphold new regulations adopted by the State of New York that make it extremely difficult for illegal aliens to obtain driver licenses.   In a brief filed in Cubas v. Martinez, WLF argued that the restrictions are needed to ensure that terrorists and criminals do not obtain fake identification documents that can facilitate their activities. WLF urged the court to overturn a trial court's preliminary injunction against the new regulations.   "The court injunction against these new regulations seriously impairs national security. Law enforcement personnel unanimously agree that the failure to ensure that driver licenses are issued only to those whose identity has been confirmed greatly facilitates a wide range of criminal activity, from money laundering to check fraud to terrorism," said WLF Chief Counsel Richard Samp after filing WLF's brief.

READERS REACTION TO DATA SKEWED ARTICLE
Data: Newcomers don't seek care
Daily Breeze Fri, 14 Oct 2005 0:53 AM PDT
Researcher's results differ from popular belief that Mexican immigrants burden U.S. emergency rooms.

This one just pixxed me off!  Notice that they are only including adults in the survey -- no minors included.  So when the Mexican mother comes in with her 8 kids and the oldest at 16 is pregnant herself, none but the old woman is counted.  They don't count the 17 year-old gang-banger with his stab wound or the 14 year-old with the over dose.  Nor do they count the 17 year-old roofer with the broken leg who fell of the roof or the 16 year-old with an amputated finger from his ag job.  Everyone seems to forget that adults aren't the only Mexicans coming to America and using our medical facilities -- their families come with them and need care too.   Janet C
